TerrAzoia was started with a love for nature, the dirt, food and healthy lifestyle.
From my teenage years, I was always interested in health, workout, exercise and general wellness. Long story short, after traveling the world as a daughter of diplomats, then the deep America as an adult, what was always constant in my life was my passion for cooking and healthy lifestyle. Also, in the early 2000s, I became a recipe tester and developer for a variety of websites and cookbooks.
After trying various diets and wellness lifestyles throughout my life, I realized that one lifestyle does not fit all. Yet, somehow I allowed life to take over and I left that passion behind. It was when I was diagnosed with cancer that without even trying, that passion came back. Some refer to such a journey as a personal wake-up call, and I truly believe such. When I started my journey through cancer, I knew my call was to help others attain their personal health and wellness goals.
Just prior to being diagnosed, I decided to become certified in plant-based nutrition through eCornell and T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies. This revolutionary program equipped me with the understanding and importance of diet and nutrition in one’s health and wellness. The teachings were comprised from over 25 experts (MDs, PhDs, RDs, RNs), including world-renown experts such as Dr. T. Colin Campbell, Dr. Caldwell B. Esselstyn Jr., from the Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Miachal Greger, from NutritionFacts.org and so on.
In 2016, I decided to complement my educational training with a Certificate in Health Coaching from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition's cutting-edge Health Coach Training Program. During this training, I studied over 100 dietary theories, practical lifestyle management techniques, and innovative coaching methods with some of the world’s top health and wellness experts. Some of the teachers and mentors included Dr. Andrew Weil, Director of the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine; Dr. Deepak Chopra, leader in the field of mind-body medicine; Dr. David Katz, Director of Yale University’s Prevention Research Center; Dr. Walter Willett, Chair of Nutrition at Harvard University; Geneen Roth, bestselling author and expert on emotional eating; amongst many other leading researchers and nutrition authorities. Today I am certified by the International Association for Health Coaches.
These two education components equipped me with an extensive knowledge in holistic nutrition, health coaching, and preventive health and wellness. With these skills and knowledge at hand, I help each of you on a personal note to make the lifestyle changes needed to produce lasting results for your overall health and life balance. Being a cancer survivor and thriver, I still focus on volunteering and helping others that entered this journey. I know first hand what they are going through and can help them deal with both emotional and physical matters.
My areas of expertise include teachings on how to food shop by choosing better choice and in season ingredients, recipe and meal planning, with a focus on whole foods, smoothies, juices, raw, vegetarian/vegan and gluten-free lifestyles, though I will also work with carnivores as well as pescatarians.
In 2017, I finally returned to Portugal where I inherited part of my parents'valley where there is an organic farm, we have been slowly recuperating it and two houses. One for short and long-term lodging and another for workshops and wellness programs.
Here at TerrAzoia, I create experiences for both travelers as well as locals where they come and visit the farm, then we pick the organic produce in season and create a meal together. Our guests leave with a sense of peacefulness, learn about healthy lifestyle, empowered to start growing their own produce, or at the very least some herbs if living in a small apartment, and the recipes we worked on.
